Background and Inspirations

Natasha Blackie began her work as a freelance professional artist in 1993. Her inspiration is rooted in her background in dance and movement, as well as her love of colour.

Her first exhibition was in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware, U.S.A, which generated several commissioned pieces. She then moved to Key West, Florida which further inspired her passion for colour, texture and fluidity resulting in some of her most fruitful and sought after work. As this was an outdoor exhibition on the main street of Key West it invited not only art lovers but the general public to taste her vision of the world.

Natasha’s vibrant style captured the attention of two prominent restaurant owners, who then employed her to paint murals and signs for the front of their businesses. She has created and sold surfboard art, t-shirt designs and prints of her paintings on cards in various areas across the U.S.A.Whilst travelling in the South of France another business owner was intrigued by her work which resulted in another commission blending the name of the bar with her energetic ideas.

Natasha’s work has continued to be popular since her return to Scotland, with exhibitions, showings at the Botanical Gardens in Glasgow, and creating individual paintings produced specifically for the buyer. She continues to produce work influenced by her interest in movement and vibrant colour.
